The San Jacinto College South Campus Dance Program will host World Dance Extravaganza week, Nov. 13-18. The events were made possible through Student Success Initiative Grants to celebrate a world of dance and culture.
Throughout the week, there will be live demonstrations and dance classes in these worldwide dance styles:
Don’t miss the World Dance Extravaganza kickoff reception on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 12–3 p.m. in the atrium of the Marie Flickinger Fine Arts Building (S15). This is a free come-and-go event featuring a live painting by famed local artist Edgar Medina. Medina will create a work that captures the essence of dance and world cultures. There will also be a large display of student work and guest contributions for viewing, as well as light appetizers and refreshments.
The World Dance Extravaganza concerts are Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17-18, at 7 p.m., featuring student and guest performances of dance forms worldwide. There is also a VIP performance on Friday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. The department is anticipating more than 250 middle and high school students to attend. After the performance, there will be a Q&A session, lunch, then a dance party on the stage with a DJ.
