Fenwick receives Women Who Mean Business Award
PASADENA, Texas — Amanda Fenwick, vice president of marketing and public relations for San Jacinto College, has been selected as a 2023 Houston Business Journal Women Who Mean Business honoree. The Women Who Mean Business Awards recognize women leaders who have demonstrated excellence in their careers and community.
The awards honor 90 women across 12 industry categories, including energy, finance, government, law, nonprofit, and real estate. Fenwick was listed among the Outstanding Business Leaders in Professional Services.
“Over the past 16 years, I have watched as Amanda has dedicated her life to improving and serving those around her,” said Teri Crawford, vice chancellor of external relations at San Jacinto College. “I cannot speak highly enough of Amanda’s work both at the College and throughout the Houston area. She is a consummate professional, trusted confidant, loyal companion, dedicated colleague, and compassionate leader.”
Before joining the College, Fenwick was an event coordinator in the Mayor’s Office
of Special Events at the City of Houston. There, she helped coordinate and plan major
events, and as the contact for parades, she designed and implemented a new system
and city policy for reviewing and approving parade and street function permit applications.
Fenwick began her career in public relations at Rice University as an assistant sports information director, where she designed and produced game week and game day notes and team media guides, as well as worked with local media for team coverage.
Additionally, Fenwick continues to support her local community, Harris County, League City Chamber of Commerce, Public Relations Society of America, and the Houston chapter of the Public Information Officer Network. She is serving her second term on the Clear Lake Shores City Council as an elected official, currently as mayor pro tem. Fenwick received the coveted Athena Leadership Award and was appointed to a National Commission for Public Relations, Advocacy, and Advancement with the American Association of Community Colleges.
Fenwick holds a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology (sports communication) from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, and a Master of Education in physical education (sports administration) from the University of Houston. She and her husband, Jay, reside in Clear Lake Shores with their daughter.
“I am honored to be named among these 90 women who are making an impact for the greater good around the greater Houston region,” said Fenwick. “I am blessed to work with great leadership that recognizes and respects our ability to contribute here at the College. I have a wonderful team that strives for their best and creates amazing work. And I am fortunate to have a family and community that supports me in my efforts, no matter how time-consuming my projects may be.”
The Women Who Mean Business Awards are based on career achievement, contribution to company and city success, community involvement, and leadership. Honorees will be recognized in a special section of the Houston Business Journal and during an in-person awards luncheon on Oct. 13.
