San Jacinto College player, alumni selected in MLB Draft
HOUSTON, Texas — One current and two former San Jacinto College baseball players were selected in the 2023 Major League Baseball draft.
Right-handed pitcher Cale Lansville was selected in the 14th round by the San Francisco Giants. Lansville pitched in 15 games during the 2023 season and started in 14 finishing the season with 106 strikeouts.
Alumnus Sabin Ceballos, currently an infielder and catcher with the University of Oregon, was picked in the 3rd round (94th overall) by the Atlanta Braves. He was also selected in the 14th round of the 2022 MLB draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
Left-handed pitcher Hunter Hollan was picked in the third round (74th overall) by the Cincinnati Reds. Hollan, currently at the University of Arkansas, was also selected in the 15th round of the 2021 MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Five San Jac alumni were signed as undrafted rookies. Chase Adkison, currently playing for Oklahoma State University, was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals. Cole Turney, currently at Cumberland University, was picked by the Detroit Tigers. JJ Sanchez was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays. And Trey Dillard and Ryan Hernandez were signed by the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Angels, respectively.
