PASADENA, Texas – Christian Bionat has been named Vice Chancellor, External Relations at San Jacinto College, where he will oversee marketing, fundraising, and government affairs efforts.
Bionat comes to San Jacinto College from the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) where he served as Vice President, Public Policy & Advocacy. In his position with GHP, he developed and executed comprehensive advocacy strategies, collaborating with policy experts, industry partners, and regional coalitions with substantial economic impact for the Houston region. He was responsible for managing legislative initiatives at various government levels to benefit the Houston region as a whole.
“San Jacinto College holds a special place in my heart, as it is where I began my higher education journey,” said Bionat. “The opportunity to return and contribute to an institution that has significantly impacted my life is deeply meaningful. This position allows me to leverage my experience in advocacy, strategic planning and community engagement to support and enhance the College’s mission to drive positive outcomes for students and the broader community in the east Houston region.”
Prior to his work with the GHP, Bionat served as District Director for U.S. Congressman Randy Weber and as Deputy Chief of Staff for former U.S. Congressman Pete Olson.
“The San Jacinto team is ready to welcome Christian to San Jacinto College,” said Chancellor Dr. Brenda Hellyer. “Christian has extensive relationships in government affairs and in the Texas legislature which are focal points for this position, and I look forward to working with him to promote the success of our students, employees and programs.”
Bionat holds a master’s degree in public administration from Penn State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Sam Houston State University and an associate of arts degree from San Jacinto College. He is also active in the military as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.
Bionat will begin transitioning into the vice chancellor role on July 1, 2024.
