Technical Degree

Our Respiratory Care Program will equip you with the knowledge and skills to help patients with respiratory issues breathe easier and improve their overall quality of life.  Learn how to care for a variety of patients with respiratory problems, including newborns in respiratory distress, children with asthma or pneumonia, adult victims of trauma, and older patients with emphysema or cardiac failure.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of respiratory therapists is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations because of the substantial growth of the middle-aged and elderly population. Respiratory Therapists are employed in the following:
Hospitals

  • Home health agencies
  • Firms that supply respiratory equipment for home use

Respiratory Care, AAS

Technical Degree
The Associate of Applied Science degree prepares you for an entry-level career. Learn about the treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. Graduates can gain hands-on experience as respiratory care practitioners by administering therapeutic gases, medications, chest therapy, pulmonary function testing, and other services to hospital patients.
Length 2 Years
This 66-credit program takes 5 terms to complete, including a summer term. Students must attend full-time.

Accreditation

To prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs). 

The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) fully credits the program. CoARC accredits respiratory therapy education programs in the United States. To achieve this end, it utilizes an ‘outcomes-based’ process. Programmatic outcomes are performance indicators that reflect the extent to which the program’s educational goals are achieved and by which program effectiveness is documented.
