Classes We Offer
The ESOL program is for students from right here in Texas and all over the world. It prepares you for multiple college and university admissions exams, including the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
Develop your English listening and speaking skills. This part of the course prepares you to speak at school, work, or with friends. You will improve your pronunciation and listening skills and learn to explain directions, events, and more.
Courses:
ESOL 0311 Introductory Listening and Speaking
- Prerequisites: Standardized test of English language proficiency.
ESOL 0362 Intermediate Oral Communication
- Prerequisites and/or co-requisites: A grade of C or better in ESOL 0311 Introductory Listening and Speaking or a minimum score on a standardized test of English language proficiency. (3:3-1)
ESOL 0363 Advanced Oral Communication
- Prerequisites and/or co-requisites: ESOL 0362 Intermediate Oral Communication for Non-Native Speakers or a minimum score on a standardized test of English language proficiency. (3:3-1)

Develop your grammar for school and work. The grammar portion of the course is all about writing and using English correctly. It focuses on word choice, word form, and word order. Skills developed here can be used to write emails, letters, and to fill out other documents.

ESOL 0351 Introductory Composition
- Prerequisites: Standardized test of English language proficiency.
ESOL 0382 Intermediate Grammar
- Prerequisites and/or co-requisites: A grade of C or better in ESOL 0331 Introductory Writing and Grammar or minimum score on standardized test of English language proficiency. (3:3-1)
ESOL 0383 Advanced Grammar
- Prerequisites and/or co-requisites: A grade of C or better in ESOL 0382 or a minimum score on a standardized test of English language proficiency. (3:3-1)
Develop your proficiency and vocabulary. These courses teach you to read and write at a professional level. You will read novels, textbooks, and more, and learn to write different types of academic papers, such as opinion essays.

ESOL 0372 Intermediate Reading and Writing
- Prerequisites and/or co-requisites: A grade of C or better in ESOL 0321 Introductory Reading or a minimum score on a standardized test of English language proficiency. (3:3-0)
ESOL 0373 Advanced Reading and Writing
- Prerequisites and/or co-requisites: A grade of C or better in ESOL 0372 or a minimum score on a standardized test of English language proficiency. (3:3-1)
How can ESOL Help You?
How to Apply
- Complete an admission application. You can apply online or at the Welcome Center. There is no application fee.
- Schedule an ESL placement exam with a counselor. Exams are given in the Welcome Center.
- Register for classes with an advisor. Your exam results will determine your level and which classes you should take. You will receive college credit hours.
This is for both resident and non-resident students.
- Call or come by the Continuing and Professional Development (CPD) office. Find the CPD office on your campus.
- In the CPD office, request to take the ESL placement test. There is no cost for the test.
- Register for ESL classes in the CPD office. Your exam results will determine your level and which classes you will attend. You will receive Continuing Education credit hours, which are college non-credit hours.
- Pay for your ESL course on the same day you register. Each course costs $175. Purchase your ESL textbook in the campus bookstore.
- Complete an admission application. You can apply online or at the Welcome Center. There is no application fee.
